I noticed, as im sure you have too, that the extrusion in the new after effects is backwards. WHY IS THIS? And is there a workaround.

I am trying to animate the 3d extrusion of text TOWARDS the camera, but all i can manage is backwards. IT animates moving away from the camera is the problem.

Of course if you’re doing shape layer extrusion you can turn the layer around 180 degrees on the Y axis to achieve the look you want.

If you are working with text extrusion to keep the letter forms oriented correctly you’d need to convert them to shapes and flip the resulting shape layer horizontally before doing the extrusion.

That will push the extrusion towards the viewer.

Ya, thats what i ended up doing. But if i wanted to create a whole project like this things would get annoyingly complicated.

    Option #2: Set Z-Scale to -100%.

Easy to copy & paste to new layers and leaves your orientation/rotation untouched.

    Good thinking Darby. Great solution.
