    Hello,
my system crashes about 75% on exit. Right after I choose to close the program, it halts, and then displays a crash report. It’s not a huge deal since I can close out of the project, then exit and have it crash…but still. Haven’t found anything about this in the forums I search.

I seem to notice it happening as I’ve been working a lot, so could it have something to do with the computer malfunctioning from overheating?

Anyone have any idea? I just built this machine and put it together for AE work, so I’d like to get this thing working right. Here’s my system specs:

Intel Quad Core Q9550 2.83 GHz
    4 Gb RAM
    Vista Ultimate 64
    NVidia GeForce 8600 GT

Open GL has been disabled by removing it from the system files.

If anyone has any advice I’d love to hear it. Thanks,

If you’re a mac user of after effects cs4 (9.0 or 9.0.1), and have noticed a crash on quit, be aware of a known issue with scripts that open dockable panels (a.k.a., ScriptUI panels, or scripts installed in the Scripts/ScriptUI Panels folder and accessed via the Window menu). if ScriptUI panels are open after starting the app (that is, they were saved as part of a workpace) or upon quitting the app, after effects cs4 will crash on quit. no data is lost, just that the app isn’t quitting correctly

the team is aware of the issue and is investigating possible solutions. unfortunately, one couldn’t make it into 9.0.1, but that update does have some important updates (choose Help > Updates to get 9.0.1). as a workaround, close all ScriptUI panels before quitting, or run a script from the File > Scripts submenu or one of the script launchers out there (rd: Script Launcher or Launch Pad). windows users and users of ae cs3 are not affected.

also, in general, if you do encounter a crash with after effects cs4, please consider submitting a crash report using the Adobe Crash Reporter.

    Thanks!

Ever heard the joke where the guy goes to the doctor and complains that “it hurts when I do this”? Yeah, that.

Well that explains that one. I was starting to think it was me. I use the BG Render UI script and have it as part of my layouts. I guess I have to close it before I get out of AE. I have not lost any work as a result but it is a pain to have to keep closing the crash report window every time I switch modes.

    Thanks for explaining the bug.

This should be fixed in the After Effects CS4 (9.0.2) update.

Photoshop, Illustrator and AE crash on exit for me too. I have saved workspaces for each app since I don’t like my pallets/panels to auto-open/close. Are there fixes on the way for PS and Ill. as well?

    Hi Rob,
I’ve only experienced this with AE. I have the whole creative suite and have only encountered it with AE. For me, the problem was my driver for Nvidia gfx card. Updating it did the trick.
