After Effects Crashes on start
Posted by Erik Lindahl on August 20, 2010 at 12:57 pmI’m not sure if this is the same error another poster in the thread has. Sometimes AE won’t launch with the below message noted to me:

After trashing my preferences under User / Library / Preferences / things seemed fine.. And then the same error came up today. Any tips?
I’m running AE CS5 with all the latest updates on MacOSX 10.6.4 with all the latest updates on a 8-core 2.8Ghz MacPro (2008) with 16GB RAM, Radeon 4870 and Kona 3 card.

August 20, 2010 at 12:58 pmTo add to the above I run the exact same installation at home on a very similar setup (Geforce 8800 instead of Radeon-card and no Kona-card). It hasn’t had these issues..

August 20, 2010 at 1:24 pmIs the Dynamic Link log completely inscrutable, or might there be some more information on the crash there?

August 20, 2010 at 1:28 pmThis may not apply on a Mac (but I think it does). I’m on a PC with an NVIDIA graphics card, and updating the video card drivers did the trick for me. I was getting a crash every time I started AE (CS4). The second startup would work fine. Good luck.

August 20, 2010 at 7:45 pmCheers, on the iPhone and the creative cow forum search gave me 0 hits on “AE CS5 MacOSX 10.6.4 crash”. Google found me some random sites (including my post here!) but not my particular issue. Will check out your link, thanks!

August 20, 2010 at 7:59 pmHmm.. Reading your links I don’t really see any solutions more than the fact some people have issues with 10.6.4.. I can see anyone having my specific start-up issue either.. :-/

September 9, 2010 at 1:26 pmI’m having exactly the same problem (except not only After Effects but also Photoshop, Illustrator, mail, safari etc etc) – all straight after updating to the latest version of os x 10.6.4 – what a pain!
Anyone found a proper solution to this?!?!?!?!?
