  • After Effects crashes after new hardware..

Hi there 🙂 I got my new computer hardware about a week ago, and I was really excited and all that untill I found out that After Effects didn’t work.. Here’s my problem: When I import a video file into after effects, like .mov .avi etc. it all works just fine. But when I try to move it into my composition, it freezes, I can’t do Anything. I can sit around and wait untill it responds, but impatient me can’t sit more than 10 minutes and wait for something to happen.. I mean, it shouldn’t take more than 30-40 seconds for it to respond again.. So, what I do is i try to move the movie around in the composition, then it appears “Not Responding” up in the left corner, then it crashes, like “After effects has stopped working, do you want to try to find a solotion or exit”, and a solotion does not work.. Note that this is _not_ happening when I drag a hi-res picture into the comp.. Ive tried to reinstall After effects several times, not working. Reinstall Vista, not working.. I have Quicktime 7.3, After effects CS3.

    My Computer hardware is:

    Gigabyte x38 DS5, f5 BIOS
    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
    Gainward 8800GT 512 Mb
    3 Gb PC6400 RAM

And it worked before I changed the processor and motherboard..

So, do you guys have any idea why my After Effects wont work? Sorry for my bad english, Im from Sweden.. 🙂

    Thanks in Advance 🙂

You might try turning off “multiprocessing” in the preferences too…this has been giving me issues.

It’s not on by default, so it has never been on… I can’t find any simular problems at adobes website either..

Okay, a little update, it ONLY CRASHES WITH .MOV FILES. So, has it got anything to do with Quicktime?

Chris, I’m glad to have found your thread. I’m experiencing the exact same problem with AE CS3 only AFTER changing out my hardware (motherboard, CPU and memory) otherwise same hard drive, same operating system as before (XP), same Service Pack 2, same base installation of software, same version video drivers, etc..)

I perform several PC installations so I know this is not something I did differently “this time” that I didn’t do last time. I used the same DVD with all my standard software.

In fact, I am going to put my hard drive back into my old PC just to see how AE CS3 works and if I have the problem or not. This would certainly prove that it is in fact the hardware. So what is my new hardware?

    Gigabyte S-Series GA-G41M-ES2L
    Corsair XMS2 2 x 2GB Modules (800MHz)
    Core 2 Quad Q8400 (socket 775)

I tried slowing down some speed in the BIOS – no luck.

I tried changing several of the preferences in CS3 as per Adobe’s suggestion https://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402244.html – no luck

My hardware before was an HP DC7600 workstation with an Intel pentium D 3.3GHz processor, no issues. I noticed you are also using a Gigabyte brand motherboard… I was going to actually buy a Core 2 Duo E8400 just to try and see if its the processor, but looks like that’s what you are running and no luck.

Can you tell me if your processor is socket 775?
