When creating a new composition that features many different separate frames being composited together, does the Duration mean much? If the composition is set to run at say 24 FPS, will AE ignore the duration setting in the preferences? e.g. a composition featuring a sequence of 100 frames running at 24 FPS, but the duration timecode is set at 2 seconds and 12 frames.

The duration would be ignored by AE, right? Just double checking in case there’s something I missed.

The “Duration” preference is for a single image (a still image, i.e.). It simply tells AE what the default duration of that still image should be. When you import a series of images as a sequence each image lasts one frame. Thus, for image sequences, all that matters is the frame rate, which determines how long the image sequence lasts — the duration preference has no effect.

thank you for the link. I entered the number of frames in the duration (in this case, 73)and AE set the timeline to 3 seconds and 10 frames, when the real timeline is apparently 2 seconds and 9 frames. If left alone, this would produce about a second of black screen.
