  • After Effects CC 2017 Not Responding

Posted by Tyler Llink on May 11, 2017 at 1:40 am

So I have just now downloaded After Effects CC 2017, (mainly for the use of the Lumetri Scopes feature) and whenever I attempt to change anything in the composition, any existing layer, effect, or if I even just move the After Effects Window around on my desktop, it will immediately begin to not respond, and then forward me to close the program. I can load up After Effects just fine, but when I edit anything in the slightest, it does not respond.

Side note; I had After Effects CC 2015 before CC 2017 and it worked just fine.

Inexplicable Problem Troubleshooting Step #1 for After Effects is always resetting your preferences. Launch Ae, and hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS) while the application is starting.

I just now tried this solution, it did not work.

Bummer. I’d also suggest uninstalling and re-installing Ae, because what you are seeing is definitely not normal.

For other clues as to what might be going wrong, are you on a Mac or on Windows?

I have already reinstalled once, no fix. I am on Windows 7… does CC 2017 happen to only be compatible with Windows 10?

If you uncheck Edit > Preferences > Display > Hardware Accelerate Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels, does that eliminate the crashing?

Cool. What GPU are you using? Maybe try updating your graphics card drivers and see if that enables you to keep the hardware acceleration setting checked?
