  • After Effects Camera Layers Keeps Zooming in When Orbiting Between Two Keyframes

Posted by Bob Wills on October 4, 2010 at 1:27 am

I have a simple 3D text layer. I set up a camera layer and placed it above the text layer in the timeline. I then used the camera orbit tool to set my two keyframes. I just want the camera to track slowly around the text about 60 degrees.

The problem I’m having is: In between the camera’s two keyframes, it wants to zoom in and then zoom back out. This only happens right in the middle of the two keyframes. The camera starts out fine, starts to track, then zooms in, zooms back out, and then ends exactly where it should.

Does anybody know what I am doing wrong? This is driving me crazy.

It’s probably not zooming per se. Look at the top view to see what the camera’s doing.

A better way would be to make a null at the center of the text, parent the camera to it, then rotate the null.

If that doesn’t help, send us a screengrab of the top view with camera path visible.

i am having this issue my self. heres the steps to reproduce any help would be nice.

    1. make new comp
    2. add new solid
    3. add vcp element effect
    4. pick effect ie. an eye ball
    5. add camera
    6. sometimes when i add camera and use the camera rotate tool it rotates the whole scene not just the 3d item. so i spam reset camera which seems to work till i add key frames to rotate it for animation
    7. set keyframe for posistion and move to new spot ony rotate the one axis to spin it or use the camera too to spin it.
8 preview it and the whole damn this zooms in and spins.

any way to set the camera back to defaults like when i got it this just started recently im still new to ae and this is kinda frustrating. uploading a video i just made to show these steps so heres the youtube link
