I recently installed After Effects 7.0 professional on my windows PC. My graphics card is a Matrox Parhelia and seems to conflict with the Open GL-3D. I had to remove this Open GL-3D plugin for After Effects to open. How important is this plugin to the operation of AE. I am just learning how to use 3-D motion control with the instruction of Mr. Richard Harrington’s DVD series that explains the 3-D motion control technique that Rhed Pixel created. Will the lack of this Open GL-3D plugin affect employing this technique and rendering the results. I have another PC with an ATI all-in-wonder graphics card that may be more compatible. What should I do or consider. In advance, thanks for your assistance.

    Sincerely Yours,

    John

In some situations, the OpenGL plug can speed up the viewing of the composition window as you work. However, it doesn’t work as well as a lot of us would like, so we either switch it off or remove it if it misbehaves. This does not cripple AE, nor does it affect our renders. Personally, I rarely use OpenGL in AE. It’s more valuable in 3D apps such as Lightwave or Maya.

If you search the AE COW for OpenGL, you should find more info.
