    Hello everybody,

I have a general question about After Effects Settings as well as Gridiron Nucleo Pro.

First things first : Machine configuration :

CPU : Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9300 @2.5 GHz

    RAM :
    2 x DIMM DDR3 2Go @ 1066
    2 x DIMM DDR3 1Go @ 1066

    Hard Drives :
    C: 1000 Go @7200 rpm (RAID 0) (850 Go free)
    D: 500 Go @7200 rpm (322 Go free)
    E: 1000 Go @7200 rpm (550 Go free)

Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra 768 Mo DDR3

    Software :
Adobe Master Collection CS4 installed on C drive.
Gridiron Nucleo Pro 2 installed on C drive

    1) I’m having trouble configuring After Effects in terms of preferences in :

    – Media and Disk Cache
    – Memory and Multiprocessing

    2) For Gridiron Nucleo Pro, what should the following settings be set to?

    – Resource settings
    – Performance Level

If anybody could help me set this all up, I would be very grateful.

    Best regards,

first off, the capabilities of “nucleo” are now standard in AE since CS3. CS4 has automated them
to make it easier to set the settings. If you are still using NUCLEO PRO from grid iron software, then
im not sure what the difference would be other than the batch rendering and ability to work while rendering. Read the manual or google the question as well. I know if your working with HD comps there are different settings than if your working on sd stuff.. Sorry couldnt be more specific…

Thanks a lot Scott for your reply.

So, what you’re saying is that other than batch rendering while still be abble to work with AE, Nucleo pro is not much use… So, lets drop Nucleo Pro! What settings would you actually apply on AE with the computer I have? (ie : what HD for the Media and Disk Cache? What settings for Memory and Multiprocessing? Knowing that I work with HD and I just need enough RAM for Outlook 2007 to run while rendering.)

Thanks in advance, I hope you can help me on this one…

    Hi Charles,

When using Nucleo Pro 2, we have some guidelines that we suggest for making your settings optimal:

    1) 2GB RAM for each instance
    2) Not more instances than you have processors

So, with 6GB of RAM, you should limit your processes to 3 to make the most out of your rendering.

I may be a bit biased, but it reads like Scott is severely underestimating what a time-saver background rendering can be. When your performance level is set to Normal, Nucleo Pro 2 will make sure that it’s using optimal CPU power, but will always give priority to other applications. This means that you can work as normal while your renders are going on, without anything else slowing down.

While CS3 and above will support multi-core processing with virtually the same efficiency as Nucleo Pro 2, spec rendering and background rendering are huge time savers. It’s a great way to boost productivity and workflow.

    I hope this helps!
