  • After Effects and music ?

    Hello,

I have to visualize music for a project. I want to make the animation in After Effects (visualization schould be done with shapes).

I know that After Effects plays the music when I watch the RAM preview. But is there a possibility to play the music the whole time ? I want to synchronize the music with the movement of the shapes.

Thanks a lot for your help

I think I haven´t writte it clear enough what I mean.

I want to work in the timeline, animate the shapes and while i work at the shapes i want to put them syncron to the parts of the music where it fits.
How I would for example work in Premiere Pro. Scroll through the footage and listen to the music simultaneously.

It´s just when I am looking through the animation it´s not possible to listen to the sound.

As Dave has pointed out, you can’t “play” without RAM previewing, but these tips may be helpful to you:

You can scrub audio if you hold down Command/Ctrl while dragging the playhead.
You can open the waveform and sync to its peaks and valleys.

There´s another thing I usually do ti give me more of a visual reference.

Before I start animating I select the sound layer on the timeline and play it (pressing ” , ” on the keypad) and I keep hitin’ ” * ” on the same keypad to add markers to the layer whenever I feel necessary (say according to the beat or some special moments).

That along with Jason´s tips can help a lot. Helps me all the time. But don´t forget, it´s a bit of a pain down in there anyway.

It takes time and pacience. So good luck.

    Cheers.
