  • After Effects 7.0 PRo chrashes while importing BMD uncompressed (8-Bit) Pal Avis!

Posted by Oliver Petz on February 3, 2006 at 4:41 pm

    Hello Blackmagig-Team!

Every Avi works fine in After Effects 7.0 Pro Tryout-Version( for example: my old Matrox Digisuite- upper-field-first AVis and MicrosoftPAL DV-Files…) exept BMD 8-Bit uncompressed Avis. If i try to import these AVIS , After Effects chrashes immediately.
DV-Avis which are compressed with BMD-DV-Encoder(lower field first) works!

I recognized that After Effects display the wrong field-order. So if you import a BMD 8-Bit uncompressed Avi, After Effects says that t is an “Lower-Field”-Avifile.
    For example:

    Projekt Window File-Information:

    720×576(1,07) trennen (LOWER FIELD)
    00333 25,00 fps
    Billion Colours
    8-bit-YUV ( 4:2:2YUV)
    48,00 khz / 16bit/ Stereo

    But that is wrong!!!
It is an PAL-Clip, captured with a PAL-Sony DIGIBETA in Premiere Pro 1.5, so the field-oder MUST BE (UPPER FIELD)first.Maybe that is the bug.
Unfortunetly it is not possible to capture a brandnew 8-bit uncompressed Pal-Avi
in Premiere Pro 2.0 Tryout Version for testing.( Look at my “Port Error” Post…)

Sorry for my horrible english, hope you understand what i mean.

At thist point it is not possible to work with Premiere 2.0 , After Effects 7.0 and
Blackmagig Decklink Extreme ( Driver Version 5.4)
    That ist really boring!!!!!

    Greetings from Germany!

I think I may have the same problem. AE7 seems fine til I import an existing project done with 6.5 which all contain BlackMagic footage.

I had this same problem both with bringing in the footage or trying to import a ppr2 edit file.

I discovered that I can import bmd 8 bit files captured in ppr2 but that files captured in ppr1.5 crashed the system everytime.

I installed the bmd codec on my laptop and transfered files captured both in 1.5 and 2.0 and got the same results. 1.5 crashed AE7.0 while ppr 2.0 files worked fine along with the import of the ppr2 edit files.

    Hi guys,

Just to let you know that we’re working on this right now and will issue a fix sometime in the coming week.
