After Effects 7.0 kills multiprocessor support for 3rd party plugins
Just bought After Effects 7.0 and noticed strange slow downs in my projects.
Just checked my task manager during renders and the cpu usage (I’m working only with bi-processor or dual core machine) was almost below 50% (sometimese reached the 60%).
So tried this: added some magic bullet and boris continuum complete effects to a clip.
Those plugs are optimized for multiprocessor plug ins.
Then rendered the comp:
In after effect 6.5 have 100% processors load on 1) dual xeon machine, 2) two athlon dual core pcs.
In after effects 7.0 launched the render and.. 25% load on dual xeon (hyperthreaded) and 50% load on athlon AND OF COURSE IT TOOK ALMOST DOUBLE TIME COMPARED TO AFTER 6.5!!!!Tried same thing with other multiprocessor-aware plugs (revision and genarts) and always obtained these terrible slow-downs.
Just consider that I made this test in three different machine with a brand new installation of windows xp pro, after effects and all latest drivers.
No words.
