After Effects 7 out of memory (but not)
After Effects is starting to refuse to load projects I was working on days ago with no problems. It seemingly loads up – the percentage indicator gets all the way to 100% then it says:
After Effects error: Out of memory (-108)
[25::16]I’ve opened the project on other machines with less RAM, and I know it isn’t lack of memory on my computer. I’ve also tried re-installing After Effects but no luck.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I am also getting the out of memory error but for me it happens randomly during me working on the project or during render. Right now I am defraging my hard drive which probably won’t help…. I have never tried opening it on another computer so I don’t know if I am low on ram. I have one gig of ram on a dell computer with pent D processor. My project: it is a music video, 4 and a half minutes long, I do have almost 600 layers of stuff mostly png and some jpg, avi. When rendered it is almost 10 gigs. Is this large?

I’m not sure of the computer’s exact spec but I know it’s 2 GB RAM and is brand new and DEFINITELY able to handle this project. Will check connectors thanks Dave, but pretty sure they’re okay (checking the performance its not even using half its memory when After Effects is trying to open the project). Any more ideas welcome!!
Rusty 600 layers is a lot but it probably depends on how long the clips are and what effects you are applying to them. Two tips:
1. Precomps
2. Pre-renders (as tiff sequences if your pc is prone to crashing / quitting AE)
