  • After Effects 6.5 Pro – New Quicktime makes it crash???

Posted by Wayne Keyser on November 30, 2005 at 9:13 pm

I can’t think what else it might be – installed the new Quicktime 7.0.3 player and now After Effects won’t open (the loading screen runs and then the whole thing just disappears as though it had never opened).

    How do I know it’s Quicktime’s fault?

Because the new installation deleted my old Quicktime Pro (for which I paid, thank you very much Apple!) and this started happening – then I rolled back my Windows XP to before the installation and After Effects opened, but with a warning that Quicktime was not installed so it wouldn’t be integrating with any Quicktime features.

I downloaded the most current After Effects patch I could find, but no help.

    Suggestions?

Point 1: I shoulda searched recent posts, an answer (the right one, though not the answer I was hoping for) was already here.

Point 2: Deleted QT7, reinstalled QT6, AE works fine.

New question: So many things are coming out that only work on QT7, how do we work this out? It won’t let you have both, it seems.

I’m having similar problems although it’s very often hit or miss when I launch a project. In any case, how do I get a copy of Qt 6.5 (or 6.0)?

Yeah you are absolutely right. I just tested it. It makes 7.0 crash also. Did the earlier versions of quicktime work with it? Because they won’t even enable certain features in AE if Quicktime isn’t installed.
