AF100 focus assist – is that all I get?
I used the AF100 this past week. I was excited to use the camera because lately I’ve been using DSLRs and really can’t stand them other than the picture quality.
I was under the impression that the AF100 had a focus assist. The EVF and the LCD are both pretty small and achieving focus with a large sensor can be difficult on such small screens. I liked the EVF peaking, which can be helpful. I liked the idea of the red peaking, but it’s not really telling me what’s in focus. Rather, it’s telling me what has sharp contrast. I found it virtually useless as it was telling me the jacket, the back of the chair, and parts of the background were in focus by highlighting them in red.
I was hoping there was an expanded focus or 1:1 type of thing. I couldn’t find that. Was I missing something? Even the cheap HMC150 has an expanded focus that is extremely helpful.
BTW, I wasn’t so excited about the crop factor. It made my 24-70 great on the long end, but terrible on the wide side. That’s what I hate about all these lenses. Why can’t they make a lens that gives me an effective 18-200 (without the crop factor)?
