    Hi guys,

I have been shooting interlaced for quiet a while now and have made the switch to shooting progressive. 720 50p is what I have shot our latest wedding at. After putting the clips on the fcp timeline and playing it back the footage looks like it is going to fast! (looks slightly like its in fast forward). My shutter speed was set to auto which means 1/50. I know the rule is 1/100 but this is too dark when shooting at a reception (even with the new 2.8 lenses). My question is: Is it due to the shutter speed or is there an option in the sequence settings within fcp? Or any other option?!! Any advice will be taken on board, thanks for your time :o)

    Kind Regards
    Stu

Check the Sequence Settings of your timeline to make sure the editing time-base is the same as the camera frame rate.

Thanks for your time responding mate! I have checked the time based setting and it says the footage is 720 at 50 frames per second I guess its right as I let fcp configure the settings when I dropped the footage on the timeline and the render bar was grey. Any other reason?!

That’s all I have. The frame rate looks right. The shutter looks correct. I don’t know what else could cause the effect you are seeing.

Thanks for your help mate. Maybe it’s just my brain since working with interlaced for 5 years then shooting progressive the footage just looks so much smoother – maybe it’s just me that has to get used to the new ‘flowing’ look which looks faster!

Once you live in the world of no scan lines, you’ll never want to go back, it just looks wrong.

If you have the old final cut just right click on your footage that plays speeded up and find change speed. Check if the speed is 100%. if not than choose remove attributes. If you use FCX go to your footage bar up where it says normal. Press the little arrow and check the speed. Let me know if it worked.
