    Hi All,

Just got a new computer at work and trying to set it up to render as fast as possible. Here’s the stats:

    Mac Pro, Mountain Lion
    2x 2.66Mhz 6 core xeon (24 cores hyperthreaded)
    32 GB 1333MHz DDR3 ram
    ATI Radeon HD 5870

The first test render I did worked very well… for the first 900 frames, I could see the aeselflink processes in the activity monitor, each getting around 100% cpu usage. then at about 900 frames, they all stopped being used and went down to 1%.

I tweaked some settings trying to fix the issue, and now they are not responding at all, they all sit durring renders (jpg/png sequences) at .5% cpu usage.

Here’s the latest settings I have been trying:
    AE CS5
Ram reserved for other apps – 3GB
    Render multiple is checked,
    Installed cpu’s – 24
    CPU’s reserved for other aplications – 2
Ram allocation per background cpu – 2GB
    Actual cpu’s being used – 13

Then I am rendering png sequences to a local striped raid disk, with the render multiple frames checked too.

When I click render it plugs away but activity monitor shows ~200% for the after effects process and .5% for all 13 aeselflink’s

What am I doing wrong here? I don’t have any fancy effects, just a lot of masks and some multiplied layers, and some basic motion keyframes.

    Thanks!
    ak

I was having the same issues. tried toggling effects on and off. deactivating ‘auto levels’ did the trick.
