Aerial Video
Posted by Roger Bansemer on January 27, 2014 at 12:56 pmI know the forum is for questions about Vegas but I just wanted to share with you a short video I shot yesterday with my new quadcopter.
Unlike my first quad, this one is incredibly stable.

January 27, 2014 at 2:59 pmHi Roger,
What kind of quadcopter did you buy and what camera are you using? I am interested in doing this. — Don -

January 27, 2014 at 3:26 pmThis is my second quad. The first one was built by a friend of mine several years ago but I never could fly it that well and the footage was always a bit shaky so I couldn’t get but a few seconds of footage here and there.
This new one has an incredible new type of camera mount/gimble on it called a Zenmuse gimble. It’s EXTREMELY fast and no matter how much the quad might tip etc, the camera stays rock solid. It’s incredible.

The quad I got is a DJI. “Phontom 1 Ultimate”

I purchased it from Atlanta Hobby. They were really good and answered any questions I had before and after I bought it.
The package I got came with a 7″ monitor so I can see in real time what the camera sees. The camera is a GoPro Black.
Call me if you want some more information.

January 28, 2014 at 2:52 amThanks VERY much for sharing this. I’ve been thinking about this for a long, long, time. Watching prices.
FYI I have an old but fun Blade 120 SR. VERY hard to fly, it is mostly in the hangar these days – I have never crashed it but I scared myself the last time I flew it ;-p .
Everyone makes Quads these days, so hard to decide.
I have a controller that will work with this one:

January 28, 2014 at 8:00 amGot the dji phantom too. Super easy, also who never have used a quadcopter can use it.
I used an inexpensive miniquad for training. Now hey also (minis) are equipped with minicams

January 28, 2014 at 9:37 amThat’s great to see. I am a Vegas user with a DJI Phantom and GoPro 3 and I am getting good results without the gimbal. I realise that these pictures could be further improved using one but I don’t have the skills to wire one up.
Sometimes, however the tilting of the non-gimbal mount can produce some great results as seen here:

January 28, 2014 at 2:18 pmI didn’t want to take the chance on hooking up the Zenmuse gimble either but there are some very good tutorials online that show you exactly how. The zenmuse gimble was costing about $750 but recently the price went down to $350.

January 28, 2014 at 5:15 pmI’m just saying, in general-and this is an open invitation to any filmmaker out there or philanthropist-if you’ve got more time and equipment than what you know to do with, I can always find a use for it.
