    Hi guys.

Before you read all this, here is the last line:

‘But generally, I am just looking to see if I am using a good workflow for this kind of thing?’…

I am working on a project which uses C4D and after effects. It is a combo of after effects character animation and C4D 3D camera animation.

    This is my work flow:

Animate camera, 3D text and particle FX in C4D, using nulls as place-holders for my characters. Then render frames and export a .AEC compositing project file.

Now, import all into after effects. I have my C4D animated camera, my Nulls to attach characters to, and rendered c4d text / particle FX layers.

Finally, I have to animate the characters with puppet tool.

Done! This is great on a shot by shot basis. But my piece is 30 seconds long and made up of around 6 different C4D scenes (all in diff projects). Also I have used a different after effects project for each scene.

The whole piece fits to music tightly, and I have a ‘Storyboard’ AE project which I have the animatic in, which I use as the basis for my timings, shot in and out points and so on.

I am about to write down all the different shot’s in and out points, and their durations. What’s the best way to work with this information in C4D? All my shots are in different projects, but I want to animate with the music in C4D. So I need to import my audio but change the in and out points for each shot/project. Is there a way? Can I just change the global project in and outs?

Ops that was a lot of explaining just to ask how to import audio and set in/out points for it.

But generally, I am just looking to see if I am using a good workflow for this kind of thing? I am newish to C4D, but pretty nifty in after effects.

    Thanks,

    John
