AE7–Timewarp–is this filter REALLY quirky, or am I overlooking something…?
I LOVE the look of slow motion video out of timewarp, but am running into an issue…
Say I’ve got a 5 second clip, and I want to create a slow-mo effect (say at 50% of original speed) starting 3 seconds in, and ending at 4 seconds. Logic would make me expect that I could just divide the clip at 3:00 and again at 4:00, apply timewarp at 50% to the divided clip, and hit “render”. However, it appears not to be that easy after all. It seems that the filter dialates time for the whole clip, meaning that if I set the in-point at 3 seconds and applied a 50% speed timewarp, the in-point is no longer correct. Also, I can only render up to the original duration of the clip, which means (in my example here) that anything past 2.5 seconds in the original clip can not be rendered.
I’ve come up with a rather convoluted workflow to overcome this problem–extend the timeline considerably, enable time-remapping on the clip, extend the out-point of the time-remapped clip some distance out, apply the timewarp filter, then scroll through the resulting clip to find the ‘new’ in and out points. This delivers the desired effect, but will be painfully slow if I have to do it on MANY clips (and I’m in the midst of a project requiring MANY clips to be treated!!) Also it’s pretty painful to make the ‘jump’ from normal to slow-mo in the same clip this way…
Am I overlooking something, or does somebody have a better work-around??
Thanks!
