Does anyone know what the new activation procedure means to anyone who updates from an older version?
Up til now I’ve had the same license key from (I think!) as far back as AE4 (maybe even 3… the dark ravages of time have got to my brain!) and all I’ve needed to do when upgrading is get the upgrade license and enter that as well as the older license.

Now, I know that activation and license are different, but does it just work in the usual way with the license upgrade, and then activating with the NEW key from the upgrade?

    Confused…..

Huh? How is that an answer to the question?

AE 7 uses activation over the internet like all Adobe software now – after you fill in the serial numbers. I’ve been using a beta serial during beta, so I don’t know serials for upgrade versions will work with 7.0, but I would assume it works the same as in the past.

Unless someone from Adobe chimes in, we’ll have to wait until one of us actually received their official box.

They also have phone activation, see Adobe Activation.

Yes, I still have concerns that will need clarification. I just had to rebuild my uncompressed workstation for the second time, if it croaks seriously, will I have to buy a new license?

I’m sure you don’t. You’ll probably have to give Adobe a call or something. It’s the same with Windows. If you re-install on the same machine a couple of times within a not too long period, you’ll need to contact Microsoft.

At least with Adobe, you can transfer the license when you uninstall. So it’s a good idea to uninstall before you wipe the harddrive.
