AE7: Plugin for Quicktime “DVC Pro 50” exports?
Posted by Fabriquez on January 17, 2007 at 5:36 pmHi there,
i want to know, if theres a plugin for After Effects Pro 7, exporting quicktimes as a DVC Pro 50. I need to share files from my Windows PC to our Mac running Finalcut Pro. And the best codec for Finalcut seems to be the “DVC Pro 50” for our work. Greetz FM

January 18, 2007 at 4:20 amIt should be one of the quicktime codecs. If you set the output module format to “quicktime movie” and then hit “format options” you should be able to select from a list of codecs, one being DVCPRO50. That said, I’ve only ever used AE on a mac, but I’m pretty sure it should still be there.

January 18, 2007 at 5:40 pmif you can’t render a qt dvcpro50 file from ae you can ‘export’ a dv file from the file menu (file>export>dv stream…), then select dvcpro50 from the pulldown. this will render a dv file without the qt wrapper, good for some workflows, but probably less good for fcp workflows.

January 22, 2007 at 12:45 pmHi,
i need this quicktime output for Windows XP Prof. & AE7.01, because theres no DVC Pro 50 in the pulldown menu.
We also use a Mac with Finalcut Pro (and the DVC Pro 50 Plugin), thats why i need it also on the Windows PC. To share the exported videos in the best quality.

January 22, 2007 at 4:16 pmfrom what i can tell, apple didn’t create a dvcpro50 codec for qt for windows… just mac. i read that both matrox and pinnacle (now part of avid) have free dvcpro50 codecs, but all links that i could find were broken, and i could not find anything on there sites.
even if you found those codecs, they probably won’t be available to render to thru qt, so you would mostlikely need to convert them in fcp. you may need to use an intermediate codec, like qt animation (lossless) as the go-between. however, fcp will mostlikely need to convert (render) to a realtime codec.
panasonic should have a dvcpro50 codec as well, but again, if you can’t render it thru qt it won’t have the qt wrapper, and fcp will probably need to render it to get realtime functionality anyway.

October 26, 2010 at 5:43 amHi There,
We’re close to 4 years since the last post in this thread. Anyone know if Apple has released a DVCPRO50 codec for Windows yet? I’ve always wondered why I have no DVCPRO 50 option in the QT DV Output module in AE 7. That’s right, I’m still using AE 7. Laugh at me now or patronize my with your pity. 🙂 If I only had the money to upgrade I would. Now I’m bummed.
The only woman I’m pimping is sweet lady propane! And I’m tricking her out all over this town.
