    Hi all,
We’ve noticed a tremedous slowdown with AE7…not just rendering, but with screen refresh. It seems like something is happening in the background, especially when other programs (premiere 2.0, and cinema 4d are open). We’ve had AE completely freeze up for anywhere from 20secs. to minutes (and several times has not come back up). When we minimize after effects to the taskbar, and work in C4d, we come back to AE, and it does not come back up when we click it in the taskbar. On several occasions, we’ve had to go into task manager, and click “swithc to” to wake it up. I know this is vague, but has anyone come across this type of slowdown, or know if this is related to much heavier ram and processor usage in AE 7? We haven’t experimented with dynamic link yet, and we did a clean install of the os prior to loading the production suite. Any thoughts would be great.

i have same problem ,and i prefer to work with 6.5

i understand that they need to promote new version but this time i think 6.5 work better than 7,there is nothing in my everyday work that i cant do with 6.5

I really like the new version, and prefer to move on, I think there might be a way to identify what’s slowing it down, and change some prefs possible.

Out of interest – are you using any Virus / Spyware / Spam / Firewall (Beyond Win XP) protection while running AE 7?

Also – do you have anything in the AE cache (green line for previews) when minimizing AE etc?

I find AE 7 screams on my machine…I also find that I work faster and better than in 6.5 It is a drag for me to go back to 6.5 Oh well, different strokes for different folks.

    Hi Steve,
We did have Virus Scanners running, but we’ve disable them….
    I’ll see if that helps.

Are you still working in 8 bit or have you switched up to 16 or 32 bit. This, of course, will slow down the program dramatically. While buggy, AE 7 seems to run quite a bit faster in 8 bit mode. Hope this helps!

This sounds like a possible video card issue. What card do you have? When was the last time you updated the drivers? (If not recently, it’s time to do that now.) Are you running single or dual displays?

    Hi Tim,
Yes it does seem that it could be a video card thing to me as well.. haven’t found anything yet.

We have a nvidia quadro 980xgl, and it is running the latest drivers that are certified for AE.
