    Hi,

I am diving deeper into 3D in AE (using the Meyer Books) and have a question – everything I can find online and in the books suggests that my setup should render shadows in Open GL, but in working through the examples in the book, I get no shadows. I have a dual 2.0Ghz G5 with a Radeon x800XT card installed, running OS 10.4.4. Lights render, but shadows do not. I checked the adobe site (https://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/opengl.html) and what I gather is that OpenGL is supported, and at the top of that screen it says shadows are rendered in OpenGL – so why am I not seeing them? Shadows are definitely turned on for all layers (casting and accepting) and I see the shadow in adaptive resolution, but not in OpenGL (all settings, static, moving, and interactions only off). Am I just out of luck with my setup and can’t find the info online, or is there something I need to set? Oh, the Previews Preference is set to “more accurate” in the OpenGL advanced section. What about AE7, would I see them if I upgraded? Thanks,

    Scott

OK, I’m still at a total loss. I watched Mylenium’s OpenGL Demystified tutorial, but still have not been able to figure this out… According to the “open GL info” section of the Previews Preferences, here is the info for my Graphics Card “Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.; Renderer: ATI Radeon X800 XT OpenGL Engine; Version: 1.5 ATI-1.4.18; Shadows: Yes; Lights: Yes; Texture Memory: 245MB; Quality is set to More Accurate”, but setting it to faster does not change anything. But I cannot see shadows at all in OpenGL mode. Is there a setting I’m missing somewhere? Why would it say shadows are supported if I cannot see any? Please help!
