    Hey,

I’ve been workin with AE for about a year, just self-teaching.. I mostly use it for corporate video intros at my job.

Lately I’ve been taking some 3dsMax7 tutorials, and I’m trying to venture into the 3D design world… I much perfer to use AE, but there are things Max does that AE can’t.

My Q is whether or not the objects i create in Max can be imported into AE7.0 and maintain their complete 3d characteristics… or is that too much to ask for?

Can i bring in a stationary object from Max and animate, move, rotate, light, etc this object in AE?

Or are the 2 worlds too far apart?

    Thx..

And any suggestions for this topic are appreciated!

In AE you can use 3D invigorator from Zaxwerks.com as a workaround for “real” 3D objects. You can export them in Max as .3ds or .obj and have all the geometry in your composition. But you will lose all your materials/textures.

The easiest way seems to render the scene in max and composite it later in ae.

If someone knows how to export camera data from max to ae it would be much easier to add some 3d effects later in ae.

Well, sorry. Impossible. Two different worlds, but that’s not bad news.
You can create your complex 3D animations using MAX and render as a PNG, TGA, GIF(whaterver) sequences and comp them in After Effects. I think that’s what everyone with the 2 software do. Not really a big deal. After recognizes the alpha channels. Don’t be sad, you’ll create amazing things with them.

About the camera date, good question, I’ll post it right now.

    Well,
Thank you for your speedy replies… Sounds like its worth continuing on with my tutorials, and crossing the 2 programs in workable techniques.

I’m sure when i get to that point, I’ll be back here lookin for more details… Thanks again, CreativeCow is an awesome place!

Well, in that case I think the masks from After Effects would help.
I’d need more details to be more accurate.

Ok, it is possible. Then I can start searching the right buttons 🙂
I already thought about masks or motion tracking but that would be too much for such a simple effect.
