AE workflow exporting for dvd
Hi, i am curious to find out what users of AE use as there export settings to get the highest quality out of a comp, i currently have a comp at 1024*576 square pixel.
I have rendered out the time line at full avi settings and whilst this seems to hold the quality the file size is a monster…grrr!
As i understand, when the large uncompressed video is taken over to encore for example it gets converted to mpeg2.
Is there a quality loss from this crossover?
would it be better to export direct from AE as mpeg2 then no
compression/conversion would be needed from encore?could exporting stills be an option to reduce risk of data loss in case of software or system failure?
would exporting stills reduce render time?

To add to what Dave has said, yes – you will get a drop in quality. But a single sided DVD can only hold about 4GB so it’s kind of inevitable that you’re looking at a reduction. Also, make sure you render out from AE in a DVD suitable format, or Encore won’t import your video. DVD only supports standard def (720×576 for PAL, and – I think – 720×480 for NTSC) in either 4:3 or 16:9 format.
