  • AE won’t recognize .aex files!

    Hi,

    I’m trying to install a few plug-ins, and most of them are easy to install and work fine (those are ones that end in .ffx) but there are a few I really want which are .aex files instead. I’ve tried opening them in ae, I’ve tried opening ae with them in the plug-ins folder and also the presets folder. But it wont work! All I get is this error message;

    After Effects error: opening resource file “Twitch.aex” — unexpected end-of-file (-39).

    ( 3 :: 54 )

    Can anyone help me???

    Thanks,

    Reuben

    Please contact support and we can provide you with a Mac version of the plug-in. This version is for Windows.

    Ok thanks Andrew,

    But there are quite a few plug-ins that use .aex format, is there a converter I could download somewhere or a trick to opening that format on a Mac?

    Thanks,

    Reuben

    Basically, plug-ins for Intel Macs on OS X need to be published specifically to be compatible since the old system was passed up for the FX plug architecture. Some developers have updated their plug-ins and some have not. There is nothing you can do to make them compatible except get a old power mac.

    Ah… Well I’m using a ppc at the moment, I’m striving to get an Intel because then I can get a PC emulator and not need to worry about all this. Is there a way of getting .aex filed to open then on a power mac?

    Thanks,

    Reuben

    It also depends on the AE version you are using… Twitch is compatible with AE 7 and CS3 for the Mac. I’m not sure about other plug-ins.

    I have ae cs3 🙁 I assume these plug-ins only work for earlier versions of ae, and therefore this is a definite flaw in the ae design.

    But thanks for the info!

Please install the following effect to restore this refence. (“Twitch”)” or “After Effects error: Can’t import file “twitch.aex”: unsupported filetype or extension. (0 :: 1). i also got the update for twitch and it still doesn’t work. pleeeeease help.
