I’ve never encountered this problem before: I’m trying to import DV footage (16:9, 29.97fps) into AE and, although it doesn’t return an error message, it simply won’t import it. Any ideas?

Does it do anything at all? Have you already restarted your computer? Check the Info window in QuickTime Player for any weird anomalies too.

I have restarted my computer which does nothing. And in answer to your other question: it does absolutely nothing. It simply closes the “Import File” dialogue box and then…nothing. Incidentally, the files are avi’s. I’ve never had any trouble doing this before though…

How did you capture these clips? Are they using a proprietary DV codec, and if so, do you have that codec installed on your system?

    Cheers,

i think we’ll need more info to go on… normally if it is a missing codec issue the video comes up as a white frame (at least using quicktime).

what did you use to capture the video (software and hardware)?

did you capture on the same system that after effects is on? if you did, then you have the right codec and it isn’t a codec issue… unless you are using a macpro and then their is some potential if all your software is a mix of universal binary and powerpc native.

if you captured on a separate system, what are the differences between the systems (os, video software, video hardware)?

do the dv files play out in any software other than the software that captured it?

I was having the exact same issue. I first saw it when I tried to open an old comp and had to point the existing DV files to a new location. I restarted my box, I tried importing the flawed comp into another and tried a new comp. The issue was not happening with Quicktime files, only AVI’s.

I did solve my problem when I uninstalled a couple of new apps, CineForm Player and a multi-format converter called Super. Regardless of the apps, I think it had something to do with how one of these apps dealt with AVI files (I suspect it was the CineForm Player). THe point is, if you’ve still got this issue, uninstall any new “video” apps you’ve installed recently and reboot.
