  • AE uses Quicktime View Settings Instead of File Settings

I’ve come across an issue I’ve never seen today. I was given a 1080i HDV file by a coworker. At some point he had watched it in Quicktime Pro at half size and saved that view setting (just the view setting, the file was not resized or recompressed). When I imported this video into AE, it used the Quicktime view settings instead of the actual video settings. In other words, it was telling me the file was 640X540 when it was really 1280X1080.

Has anyone else ever run into this issue?

There was an easy fix, open the file in Quicktime Pro, view it at actual size and save. My concern is that I could be delivered video files from someone, AE could incorrectly read the view setting and fool me into thinking the video is SD resolution.

P.S. Before Dave posts his HDV stock answer, I do intend to convert it to a different format before I begin compositing.
