I must be out of the loop with the AE to Maya workflow.
I thought only nulls can be accessed from AE?
I will need to investigate this.

Are you using the solids as a placement for your future CG models?
I noticed it was a lot of planar looking Solids (as in flat and wall like).
Are you replacing or adding to the original footage?
Example, as you drive down the street and look over to your left, a house on the video, is there but you have a CG model in front of that house.
If it’s for placement you need to use NULLS.
There are tutorials online that explain this in full detail.
I’m going with past memory here.

Right, if you watch from this video at around 1:01 to 1:35 or so you will get the exact idea of what Im doing, Im using these solids to remodel the map “Raid” from Black Ops 2, the guy in this vid does it using cinema4d howverr and i want tot do my modelling in Maya asd it is the 3D software I like the most and want to learn. It frustrates me how easy it is for him to get his solids into c4d but for maya it seemingly impossible Eric, verry confused indeed. I may look into the Nulls idea instead if you can help me out in replicating the solids thing with nulls
    Thanks

OK, so i finally resolved this, what I had to do was export the after effects project into cinema4d, the export from c4d as an OBj into maya. Then in maya you will have a mesh made up of all your solids from after effects, its pretty messy… but I got the job done
