I’m trying to make some animations for a Final Cut Pro project that is setup for Sony’s XDCAM. I cannot seem to get the settings right because when I put the graphics in the timeline the system chokes and tells me to try various setttings in order to make it playback. Well what I did try is taking a movie that plays perfectly in Final Cut then I imported it into AE and rendered it out using my settings. The bottom line is that after importing it back into Final Cut the movie choked. Does anyone know the correct settings in AE for an XDCAM project? Here are the settings I’m using:

Format: XDCAM HD 1080i60 (35 Mb/s VBR) Quicktime Movie
    Size of Graphics: I’ve tried both 1920 x 1080 and 1440 x 1080
    Upper field first
    29.97

    Where can I start?

My understanding from talking to those who know is that you cannot render from AE to some file formats and have FCP play them back in real time. Hopefully Adobe will address this in a future release. Until then, render from AE to the Animation codec then render the clips in your FCP timeline.

Thanks! That’s what I ended up doing! It’s amazing that I can capture and edit in this format but cannot render an animation with it! Argh!!!

    Hi,
Just reading your posts in the archives. I’ve been having the same FCP “choke” problem. When you finally had success, was is using 1920×1080 or 1440×1080? What was your Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square or 1.33? Do you think that rendering out in Animation or HDV made the difference? Also, how ’bout the compression setting for the FCP sequence? Have you tried the new Apple ProRes? What’s the best Seq settings? What’s your favorite color? (Sorry…got carried away with all those questions in a row).
    Thanks!
