I am trying to make a new text layer in a comp, and I choose layer-new-text and type my word, but nothing shows up. when i click onto the timeline, the word i typed is the name of the layer so AE is getting the info.,..however not showing up.

please tell me this has happened to you thousands of times and there is ONE SIMPLE explanation that isn’t “your AE broke, sorry”.

    =/

Be sure the color of your font is not the same as the background color.

No, its on transparent and my font is red. I tried making background black and my font white. I think its some random setting–i opened up old projects and if there is already text layer i can write on it, but i cant do it in a new project! I dont get it!

    =(

OK I FIGURED IT OUT! SOMEHOW (somehow!?!?) my horizontal scale default was changed so that when i made a new project horizontal settings were not at 100%…..strange.

    well now we know.
