Why would After Effects say it is using 24% of 3GB of RAM when it is rendering when I have 6GB of RAM? The only programs I had open at the time of this screen grab were AE, Mail & Safari.

    Thanks

all that means is, for that particular render, ae needed to use only 24% of ram that it had available for frame caching. it doesn’t mean that ae was limited to using only 24%.

you don’t need to worry about that value, it’s really only useful when you are troubleshooting crashes during a render… if ae happens to crash several times when it is hitting the same ram value (say 60%), then you may want to adjust some settings, like lower the max ram cache or activate the ‘purge every xx frames’ option in the secret pref.

until then, it just means that ae is working just fine….
