AE Project Won’t Render
Posted by Scott O’connor on March 29, 2007 at 12:26 amI’ve got a strange situation, which I’ve never seen before:
AE7 comp, which I can open and edit, preview, etc. But whenever I try to render (using either Nucleo or just AE render) it won’t output anything.
The comp uses both Zaxwerks’ Proanimator and Trapcode’s Particular (which have always worked fine), but even when I disable these layers, the comp still won’t render…
Any suggestions?

March 29, 2007 at 12:51 pmWhat do you mean by “won’t render”?
a) you push the render button and nothing happens?
b) you push the render button and the render queue disappears?
c) you push the render button, the render progress bar moves, you get the chime, but the file isn’t there?
d) you push the render button, the render progress bar moves, you get the chime, the file is there, but it is black when viewed in QT Player?
e) you push the render button, the render progress bar moves, you get the chime, the file is there, but certain layers are not visible in QT Player?
f) none of the aboveIn other words, could you be more specific about what exactly happened?
Thanks.

March 29, 2007 at 4:07 pmI push the render button and either:
A) The Nucleo Pro dialog box appears, or
B) The Aftereffects render queue starts up (depending no whether or not I’m using Nucleo Pro),
but then nothing happens either way. Elapsed time starts moving, but no progress bar, no time remaining, no QT file is created in my destination directory. This goes on and one (15 minutes or more without a single frame rendered). And it happens in this particular project even if I turn off every layer but simple text–it won’t even render that.
Hope this helps explain, and thanks in advance for any advice/ideas.

March 29, 2007 at 4:50 pmHm. Odd.
Can you start the render at a different frame?
Can you save a RAM preview?
Can you render to a different format, such as TGA sequence?
Can you uninstall (not disable) Nucleo and try rendering? -

March 29, 2007 at 5:08 pmTried starting the render at different points–didn’t work.
I was able to save a RAM preview (thankfully), but only at half-resolution.
I’ll try your last 2 suggestions and see if I get somewhere. It’s just odd that every other project renders without a problem…
Thanks.

March 29, 2007 at 5:22 pmCan you send me the project, with no footage? Maybe I can take a look at it and see what’s what.

March 29, 2007 at 7:40 pmIn case anyone else is reading this thread, the culprit was Knoll Light Factory. Viewing the Current Render Details seems to have helped narrow things down.
