    Hi all –

    I’m new to these forums.

I wonder if anyone can advise…

I’m just about to get a dual processor G5 Mac for filmmaking purposes.

One of the things I’m planning on using is Motion 2, and so I’m examining an upgraded graphics card option – either the GeForce 6800 GT, or preferably the Radeon X850 XT.

However I’m also planning on using After Effects, and in the graphics card table on the Adobe website, the Radeon X series doesn’t get a tick.
    https://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/opengl.html

I’m not sure if this means

    a) the combination hasn’t been tested
    b) the combination won’t work at all or
    c) the combination will work but will run slowly because it’s not OpenGL optimised

Does anyone have any experience of using a Radeon X series card with After Effects on the Mac?

Any thoughts or info much appreciated…

The Radeon should work fine for you. I have a Radeon 800XT running on a dual 2 gig G5 and it works great in AE; a big improvement over the card that shipped with the computer (some lesser ATI card.)

    Thanks Scott –

    That’s what I was hoping.

I know some software companies can be a bit conservative about saying hardware is “supported” – best way is to find someone using it in the field…
