Does anyone know if a power book g4 can capture Apple AIC 60i HDV material reliably? I have a client that want to do a bunch of theri own capturing.

    Many thanks.

If it’s resolution is 720 and below then it might be possible, but I wouldn’t trust it. I have a dual 2 ghz G5 and it has trouble sometimes with HD capture especially over 720p. You might have better luck with interlace, but I’ve never used a powerbook to capture.

More info is needed to say wether or not it will work.

    What is the Processor Speed?
What version of Final Cut Pro?
What type of Hard Drives are being used?

Using the Apple Intermediate Codec requires a lot of hard drive space
“Apple Intermediate Codec HDV 1080i60 approximately 14 MB/sec.
    (equivalent to approximately 49 GB/hr.)”

along with needing a lot of hard drive space they need to be fast drives, so you will need to get a eSATA raid (fire wire drives probably wont cut it for AIC). To add a eSATA raid you will need a SATA card for the computers PCMCIA slot, if it is a 12″ Powerbook it will not have a PCMCIA slot.

here is a link about the Apple Intermediate Codec
