I’m creating a couple push transitions. It’s as simple as keyframing starting and ending positions for each clip and letting them slide across the screen. On the edge of the push, between the two clips, I created a little white bar shape to act as a border in between the clips. I created it by just placing down two different position key frames and letting AE interpolate the move.

I’m working in a DVCPROHD 720p 23.98 timeline. Instead of pushing smoothly, the white bar, jerks across the composition. Any ideas why?

Here’s a link to see what I’m talking about.

Consider working in a 23.976 timeline, not 23.98. Your material is 23.976, not 23.98, in spite of FCP might say.

After having said that, I have to add that you might be stuck with the low-frame-rate judder, which happens with anything below 60i (29.97 interlaced), especially when the motion is linear and straight, allowing the eye to predict frames and defeat persistence of vision. It’s an optical phenonmenon that can be seen in movie theatres when the camera pans. Search the COW for “judder”.

    But try 23.976 anyway.
