I am looking for some workflow help for an AE HD comp into an Avid Adreneline. I have a 30 second spot, graphical background with keyed talent. Size is 1440 X 1080, footage was shot at 60i.

I have had no luck getting an export that had any sort of resonable quality to it. At first we tried both a Targa and a Tiff seq. with ok results. The quality wasn’t bad, but the video sped up as the spot went along. By the end the video and the audio were way out of sync.

Next we tried many different QT compressions. I was pretty sure that this wasn’t going to work but it was worth the try. The quality was poor, lots of color loss and tearing of the video around any movement.

If there is anyone that has any experience with this workflow and can give me some insights that would be very helpful.

    Thanks

    Steve

What codec/output settings were you using when you tried to render out a Quicktime? When using the right settings, you should be able to get a perfect match to what you see in the AE composition window.

Tearing of the video sounds like a field issue.

Did you separate fields upon import into AE? If you did just about anything more than color correction on an interlaced clip, you should have separated fields.

… and do send us the specs as beenyweenies requested.

I have had timing interpretation issues with Avid Adreneline.

Everything will be running in Sync in AfterEffects and in Protools, but when we import it (tgas and AIFFs from ProTools, or QuickTimes with Avid Codec(in my case the Meridian)) the Audio is alway miss interpreted by the Adreneline – no matter the setting on the file.

We opened a case with Avid support, but…well you can guess. I just make sure things are ingested in the Symphony Nitrouses now. I know this isn’t really a solution for you, but maybe you can tell Avid that other user have the same issue as you.

Avid Meridian . . . yuck! Try Animation, Quicktime PNG, etc.

Look here for codec comparisons: https://www.onerivermedia.com/codecs/

The last render that I did had much better results but still not the exact copy of the AE comp window as you have described as possible.

    Here are the last settings:

    Quicktime Animation
    30 frames per second
    millions of colors
    best quality
    lower field first
    full resolution

I don’t know if it makes a difference or not, the main video was first brought into AE as a quicktime none, but the last couple of renders I have used a quicktime reference with seemingly better results. Any suggestions here as well?

    thanks for the help

HD is almost always upper field first, not lower field (even HDV). That would be a good starting point in your troubleshooting as accidentally reversing these will cause image problems similar to what you have described.

The codec you are using is great, so I would start with the upper/lower field issue then go from there.
