AE freezes up during render in Windows
Posted by Joe Feng on December 15, 2005 at 2:57 pmI’m rendering out a 1 minute piece using none compressed QT.
AE freezes up about halfway through the render.
This has never happened before and I’ve rendered out longer projects.
Any help is appreciated!Joe Feng replied 20 years, 4 months ago 2 Members · 2 Replies -

December 15, 2005 at 4:20 pmHave task manager open, and see if you’re maxing out your RAM. If so, go into the secret prefs: hold down shift when accessing the prefs — release the shift key only when the dialog box shows up. Try setting it to purge every 5 frames during make Movie.
Or … the movie is too big for the drive? Try the Animation codec or freeing drive space.
Or … is there something special happening at the freeze point? An effect?
Try rendering to TGA sequence, then bringing that in again and compressing to QT. If you crash during a TGA render, you can always pick it up where it left off.
BTW, why “none”? You should probably use Animation instead anyway. And you should be using Make Movie, not File>export, right?

I’ll try the secret prefs. The final movie is under 2GB, and I have tons of space on my drive. Also, the freezing has been happening at different spots.
And just now, I was able to finish an entire render for a different sequence in the same project. Same length, but less layers and precomps.
I am using “make movie.” These are going to be motion menues for a DVD project. I tried the mpeg2-dvd render option, but the result wasn’t as good as what Cleaner could give me from an uncompressed codec.
Is there any significant difference between “animation” and “none”? Thanks!
