  • AE exporting – semitransparent pixels turn white in FLVS, PNG sequences, etc

    Hello,

I’m using keylight on some green screen video that I need to export with transparency (FLV, but PNG sequence would work in a pinch). However, while the key looks *awesome* in AE and in other exported formats like quicktime, any format that allows transparency has the same problem.. the edges, and any place that is semi-opaque, turns whitish in color. This includes my semi-transparent simulated shadow.

I’ve played with the keylight settings a ton, and can’t seem to get any variation in the white ring around my greenscreened subject…. it seems just any semi-transparent pixel gets this coloration. Anyone familiar with this issue, or know what might be causing this?

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Looks your files are being pre-multiplied against white (probably your composition background color?). Dunno if it’s an option, but you should try to export with straight Alpha to circumvent it.

Yeah, it’s picking up the background color on any semitransparent pixels when I export…. when I’d love for them to truly be transparent, with no matte, since Flash can’t remove the matte.

Anybody know how to export a Keylight-ed video with no matte (background color) coming across in the transparent pixels? I’ve togged with the keylight settings and can’t seem to get it. I’m dying for a solution here.

One of the flaws with the PNG file format is that the alpha channel only will be saved and interpreted as straight. The API of the format does not allow for a premultiplied alpha. Don’t know anything about the FLV format.
Try playing around with a format that allow for premultiplied alphas. Maybe a google search for a free plugin called unmult will solve your problem.
