    hi there

    the message reads

    After Effects error: OpenGL:Failed to generate shadow map

    i cant use openGL without getting this message

    Are you sure your graphics card is set properly and supports all OpenGL features AE uses? Most likely it has too little VRAM to accomodate the shadow maps.

    what do you mean too little VRAM
    my card is a nvidia 7900GT

    VRAM –> Video RAM. Since you have a 7900, that should be way enough. Still, check if you are using the correct OpenGL application setting in your NVidia menu. AE’s config is quite unique and the default settings (or settings from other 3D apps) don’t work too well.

    Hi Mylenium

    these are the settings within AE

    Adaptive resolution limit – 1/4
    Accelerate effect using – Adaptive resolution
    texture memoery – 95mb
    quality – more accurate

    and OpenGL box is ticked

    No, I mean the graphics card settings. There are special OpenGL settings for many apps in the NVidia driver. You may need to set them accordingly.
