  • AE CS5 crashes on open – worked before

    Hi all!

I’m relatively new to AE, so I’m posting here in the “basics” forum…

Problem: I’ve been working with After Effects (CS5) for a few days, no problem. Now, it won’t open… keeps crashing on each attempt.

    The AE Alert generated:

    The log includes the following:
    Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGABRT)
    Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000000
Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread

A search indicated that it might be a font cache problem and suggested installing Font Finagler to clean the cache. AE is still not opening.

I also tried using the Adobe Application Manager to uninstall AE within CS5… then re-installed it… still no luck.

For what it’s worth, nothing changed between shutting down the system last night and booting this morning, so I really don’t know what happened.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Additional info: I also tried uninstalling AE (CS5) from my User level, and re-installing the entire CS5 Production Premium at the Admin level. I can now (at least for the moment) open After Effects without it crashing… but only at the Admin level. It still crashes if I try to open at the individual User level.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

I had exactly the same problem- I followed adobe man’s advice all but one, I followed the path

    /Users//Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/10.0

and deleted ALL the files that were in there, not just workspaces XML and it booted up a treat!

    Thanks all!!!
