  • AE CS4 Renders very slow compared to CS3

I am rendering out a 90 minute movie as an MPEG IMX 525 60 mov file. Nothing special, just a movie with a bunch of text layers.

In AE CS3 (v8.0.2), I selected “multiprocessor processing” option and it renders very fast, aprox 60 fps

In AE CS4 (v9.0.0.346), I have tried all combinations of settings, and it will start rendering about 10fps, and end up only doing 2fps.

I have tried de-selecting MP rendering, and using OpenGL, but everything is slow.

    I have an 8-core Mac Pro 2.8 (Early 2008 model) 4gb ram (Yes, I know it’s not a lot).

If anyone has any insight about this, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

I have a new Macbook Pro with 2,5ghz, 4gb ram and 512mb graphics. When I render a project in CS4 to Quicktime Animation format it takes 11 minutes. When I do the same thing on my 8-core Mac Pro it takes 9 minutes. Nothing odd there but when I render the project in CS3 on the Mac Pro it only takes 3 minutes :S

I tried rendering out in Animation codec with similar results. CS3 renders about 60fps, CS4 does about 8fps with multiprocessing turned off. I tried a few variables with it on, but it renders even slower at about 5fps.

I’m running quicktime 7.5.5 (latest version).

This is rather old post, but I just upgraded to CS4 and my MBP 2.5ghz that was fine with CS3 becomes unresponsive until the rendering drags to the end. I can not do anything while AE renders, not even read mail.

Looks like the 9.0.2 update has fixed this rendering problem! Thanks Adobe!

I’m actually still having issues with slow render times with CS4, and I have just updated to 9.0.2. I’m just trying to splice together a few videos i took for work. It only totals about 3 minutes, and there are no added effects, only the clips end to end. It took nearly 3 hours to render.

I’m relatively familiar with AE CS3 and didn’t used to have this kind of problem. In fact, rendering existing videos together used to run really quickly.

I’m curious as to whether it has something to do with the fact that AE says it’s using 13% of 3GB of RAM? I have it set to utilize much more, but it never goes higher than 13%.

Any advice would be awesome, thanks. I have a MBP Intel 2.5 GHz with 4GB RAM (i know not the best, but usually better than this).
