AE CS3 Frozen footage

are you sure that the footage itself isn’t frozen?

does it play/scrub fine if you leave the interpret footage at the original frame rate?

the only thing i can think of right now, is that you are running out of ram. try choosing edit>purge>all.

if that doesn’t work tell us more about your footage…. size, frame rate…

Yep, check the footage. This sounds unusual.

Here’s more shot-in-the-dark troubleshooting to isolate the cause if the footage is fine:

Slide the footage in the timeline to see if the stoppage happens at the same place in the action or the timeline.
Try dropping it into a 29.97 timeline.
Try RAM previewing around 3:22 and past.
Try dropping other footage into the timline and see if that freezes.
Try moving the footage to another drive.
Check your system monitors to see if you’re running out of RAM.

Wow, you guys are fast.
I’ve verified the issue with Adobe , on hold right now in fact.
I did try all of the things each of you suggested. None corrected the issue.
The footage is fine and even plays in a QT window within AE (not in comp) just fine.
I’ve tried 5 diferent clips, using different codecs. All have the same issue.

If the Adobe tech comes back with a valid answer, I will post it here.

The Adobe tech said it was an issue concerning Quicktime 7.2 and suggested I go back to 7.1.6.

I also tried swithching off multiproc in the preferences. Did not solve issue.

I am still hoping for a tip from you guys to solve this. Fingers crossed.
I am on a Dual Quadcore Xeon 3.0, 8gigs ram, os 10.4.10, AE 8.0.1.8

Did you go back to 7.1.6?

Not yet. I did download 7.16, not installed yet. Still looking for instructions on how to downgrade from QT 7.2 to 7.16. I don’t expect it is easy.

Anyone have a link to instructions. Pain free prefered.
