AE crashes at startup

this has worked for some…
uninstall and remove pref folder in AE folder. re-install and turn off open gl.

indeed, not that much to find on google…

Quicktime and Codecs are key here, but you’ve done that already.
Do you have a 3rd party Video-card ?
Installed updates recently ?
Resetting AE won’t probably help here, but you can try (boot AE while holding CTRL+SHIFT+ALT)

It seems most people find the solution in a new OS installation 🙁

Im working on windows xp proffesional sp3. So you sugest that i should reinstall windows?
Mi video card is an integrated onboard Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family. Not shure about the qualities of the card itself.
I have a Intel Core2 Duo CPU T5750 @ 2GHz, and 3 GB of RAM.

I´ve tryed everything, even uninstalling and cleaning the registry, even i´ve done a useful disk defregmentation. and then installed AE with my computer absolute clean.

Other failures that this generates is the fact that i cannot import video files and its getting unable to activate openGL.

So, im out of ideas. Also i´ve boot the program holding SHIFT+ALT+CTRL. Nothing with that.

Switch off OpenGL from the OS. Ensure that AE is not running while you’re doing this. After switching off OpenGL, retart your computer and check that OPenGL is still switched off. Then say a prayer and run AE.

you can switch off the Hardware Acceleration in
control Panel -> display properties -> settings -> troubleshoot

if it helps, the error has something to do with the display-drivers,
rolling back to an older driver might help.

maybe you can restore your system to a date it still worked,
if you’ve made restore points ?

other than that,
to have hardware accelleration back again nobody seemed to have a better solution than reinstallings your OS 🙁
Sometimes it’s just the fastest way !

Nothing worked people…
I´ve downloaded a portable version of the program and it throw me the same error but at least its leaving me work without those ugly bars on my preview. Im still not importing any video files and openGL still unable to check. But i can work now.

I´ve been working just perfect on After Effects 7.0, and it still installed and working perfect. I dont get it…
