    I’m kinda stuck….

AE CS4 just crashed giving an error message about “whilst invoking plug-in Auto Levels”. It then tells me it has saved a copy of the project.

However, it has saved the project with the plug-in that is causing it to crash, so everytime i try open the project it immediately crashes. Any idea how i can open the project with out the offending plug???

    I’m on Mac 10.5.5 with AECS4.

    thanks
    Adam

to open the project with the bad effect, just turn the caps lock key on prior to opening the bad project. this will disable the preview update when the project opens, which will effectively disable the rendering of the effect, allowing you to go in and remove the effect form the comp.

once the effect is removed you can hit the caps lock key again and work as normal, perhaps saving first 😉

Interesting, I am having the same problem with other color plugins, I have the same error once in a while with Color Finesse 3 and Colorista II in AE6. But I can reopen the project and keep on working on it until the next random crash happens.

The After Effects CC (12.2) update fixes a cause of a crash involving the Auto Contrast effect, Auto Levels effect, and related effects.

Let us know how it works for you after you’ve installed the update.
