(I can’t afford the “Keylight” Plug-in right now)

I’ve shot some great greenscreen footage of me being attacked by a snake (rubber snake) and I’ve been using AE’s “Color key” to try and rereplace the green with a rainforest for a funny bit I’m shooting, but I just can’t get rid of that darn green right around the edges of skin and clothing even with multiple Color Key’s, and with all the fast flayling you can still see the green between fingers or anywhere there is blurring due to motion.

Is the a better way to do it other than just “Color key” in AE without having to buy the “Keylight” plug-in? I’ve seen other options under the Keying menu but am not sure what they do.

    Please assist, thanks in advance!

What version of After Effects are you using? If memory serves, Keylight has come bundled with After Effects since version 6.5 (maybe earlier?). Check your install disc, it might be right there just waiting for you.

If you want to get rid of fringing, then you could try either a Spill Suppressor, or use a range on the Hue/Saturation filter to target only the greens you need to change.

    Good luck with your project,
    Ben
