AE clips highlights from clips exported from FCP!
Message:
I have had this problem before and am geting a bit fed up,
I have a ProRes HD movie in Final Cut Pro, i export it to a QuickTime bring it into AE and the highlights are clipped.Here is the clip split screen, Movie , it should be obvious but the AE is on the right.
Anyone know what this is about??

How do the highlights look in the Quicktime player, or reimported into FCP?
Have you switched AE to 16 or 32 b.p.c?Joey Foreman

AE is in 16 bit mode.
If I import the the clip back into FCP without going to AE it looks fine. it is only when going to AE I have a problem. i have to bring down the highlights in FCP then export to AE to make sure nothing changes.

Try using a different codec than ProRes. Try Animation, or PNG or PhotoJPG. Something that is cross-platform.

You probably don’t have the amazing color management on. It’s just like if you import a SD NTSC from premiere into AF, it’s all dark until you change to file->project settings, SD color management. Same thing with Quicktime. Quicktime’s player is a lil wonky cuz its gamma is set really high, that is why AE is clipping, AE doesn’t interpret the gamma curve the same way. You have to tell it how to preset gamma.
