    All,

I am not here to bash AE7, but I must start by saying that it has been a nightmare for us since day one. It crashes a LOT! I don’t really hear much from others about this so I am wondering if you (like I ) have been suffering in silence for all this time? Or is it just our particular configuration?

Our machines have been wiped and reloaded several times over the past year. AE7 has remained consistently FLAKY regardless of the OSX/QT7 version and/or the plugins installed. We have 3 identical machines with identical configurations–so NO its not bad hardware on any one particular machine. (Bad ram ,etc.)

    Simply stated: Its not us.

    MY INSIGHT TO SHARE:

As I stated, we have several G5 2.0 Dual (PCI-X) machines with ATIx800 video cards and DUAL 23″ apple displays. I discovered recently that if I do not spread AE7 across both displays. (If I keep it confined entirely to the primary display…) The majority of our random crashes go away.
    (6.5GB RAM per machine.)

It (of course) negates the ability to use the extra “real estate” offered by the second display, but it provides a MUCH more reliable experience overall.

I had thought that it was plugins or ram issues (and I have reconfigured/swapped/installed/uninstalled everything at least twice trying to affect the problem.). Limiting work to just one desktop is the ONLY thing that has affected our random crashes. (Tweaking the OpenGL settings inside AE had no effect.)

Yes, we are using the latest ATI drivers.

Has anyone else had a similar eperience?

    MY NEXT QUESTION:

AE7 still has issues upon quitting. It often takes an inordinate amount of time to quit (10-15 seconds after my final save has completed)…and then results in an error message/dialog. (“The application After Effects Professional 7 has quit.”)
How do we get this to stop from happening?

We all get this fairly regulalry while working.

    ——-
    Your suggestions/help are/is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Punit

    All,

    Just FYI.

AE 6.5.1 is rock solid on all of our systems. That is why we are so frustrated with 7.

We started several new projects in 7 and were unable to complete them due to crashes.
(We had to re-create in 6.5. to complete.)

we are running AE7 on 5 different macs – each is dual display and has a blackmagic output. We don’t experience any crashes….. I mean, maybe there was one or two in total since AE7.0 was released….. but overall really stable. We also store all our project files and media on an X-SAN server so nothing is local. Saving and quitting is not noticably any slower than AE6.5.
