    Hi all,

    So here’s the deal…
Never used After Effects before, but am comfortable with cutting together some projects in Final Cut. So I’m at the point where I wanna start doing some cool graphics over my video. I’m very proficient in Photoshop, and Illustrator, so the interface of AE isn’t all that intimidating…

I’m confused as to the order of operations though.
I’ve finished editing together a 2 min video containing roughly 50 cuts or so. When I bring it into AE the clips are all merged into one single video clip. I export from Final Cut as a Quicktime Movie.
Every time I google a tutorial on AE, I only ever see people working on a single 8 sec clip or so.

Is this how it works? Do I have to somehow import every little clip one by one into AE, then bring it back into Final Cut??? Is there any way for me to import the file into the program where the clips are intact and separate so I can work on them? Is that even feasible from a RAM /Rendering standpoint?
    Thanks for any input!

You are better off going in the other direction. Create your graphics in AE – use Final Cut to cut them into your video.

There is a program called Automatic Duck that will translate a sequence from FCP or Avid into After Effects. The COW forum is here: https://forums.creativecow.net/forum/automaticduck

With the workflow you want that is the program you would need to make it happen. You could use the workflow Neil suggested, and that also works in some situations but I know of other scenarios where the entire FCP sequence needs to be visible in AE for a variety of reasons.
